This sophisticated multi-admin hosted blog website system raises the effectiveness of your primary or secondary school website whilst saving valuable time and resources. It can be used very effectively for purposes such as home-school communication, distributing homework, teaching notes storage and as an eLearning portal, with positive aims, achievable methods and tangible outcomes, for example:
Aim: to provide a readily updated and easily accessed school information site. Blogware method: teachers and admin staff can post a new item (homework, event information, letter home) in seconds, which can be seen on the blogsite immediately as well as being sent directly to subscribers' (eg pupils and parents) email inboxes. Outcome: home-school communication more effective (no scrabbling around in school bags for lost letters home) and interactive (comments about an item can be posted back onto the website), community links are strengthened.
Aim: to provide a means of storing and displaying publicly accessible documents and records, and giving restricted access to confidential ones. Blogware method: posts are swiftly made to the blogsite with relevant documents 'attached' - no retyping required. Confidential documents are placed in password protected categories. Outcome: 'Open Government' requirements met without using up hours of time. A central repository of sensitive documents can be created.
Aim: to provide 24/7 access by students (and their parents) to homework assignments, teaching notes and learning resources Blogware method: teachers make posts via the internet or email, students and parents can access this information via the blogsite as well as receiving it by email. Outcome: students will always know what is currently expected of them and have the resources to undertake their tasks. Parents will be fully informed and so able to play a far more active role in encouraging and helping their children with their learning.
Aim: to provide additional ICT experience by involving pupils in the development of the blog website (developing IT, writing and photojournalism skills). Blogware method: teaching resources and hand-outs can be provided by Netpoint. A class or tutor group could have their own folder or 'sub-blog' where they could put information about a project, or each have their own webpage. Outcome: increased motivation - pupils get a buzz out of knowing their work will be on the internet!
Aim: to provide 'messages home' from school trips abroad, instant updates from field trips and social events. Blogware method: posts (including photo-posts) can be made from anywhere in the world using email via a mobile phone/PDA Outcome: parents go to blogsite to see 'Italy trip return delayed, will be arriving at school at approx. 11-45am', rather than blocking school phone lines, or a photo can be posted to the blogsite - 'A photo of Form 7BH taken at the top of mount Snowdon just five minutes ago!'.
Aim: to ease burden on people's time and school resources. Blogware method: as all updates are done using any internet connected PC with browser/email there is no steep learning curve or expensive hardware/software to buy. Outcome: the effective use of electronic communication saves individual people's time as well as the overall resources of the school.
Aim: to provide teachers with a repository for notes and resources that can be used as required. Blogware method: each teacher will post homework/resources to the relevant current homework folder for example, but can also store/move it to their own private folder for future use. Outcome: teachers will find it easy to store, locate and publish resources and assignments.
